Each year millions of lost and abandoned animals are taken in by animal welfare organizations across North America. Of these animals only 14% of the dogs and 4% of the cats (estimated figures) are ever returned home. The major reason for failing to re-unite a lost pet with its owner is because the pets are unidentifiable. Microchipping offers the only truly permanent method of identifying your pet and linking the animal back to you, the owner. If you want to improve your pet’s chances of getting home in a lost pet emergency – microchipping is your best option. |

Cat Furniture |
Most cats will NOT be significantly destructive to furniture, drapes, carpet, etc. if provided an attractive alternative outlet for their normal scratching and climbing behaviors. Cat furniture is especially enticing to kitties when situated near a window in a part of the house frequented by family members. A mixture of carpet and sisal rope provides variable texture. |

What Your Cat Needs |
Indoor Cat InitiativeWe created the Indoor Cat Initiative to enrich the lives of indoor cats. We believe that indoor enrichment is as important as an excellent diet and health care. To that end, we have provided the areas listed on the left side of this page to explain what it means to be a cat, help get you off to the right start, introduce you to the things indoor cats need, help you troubleshoot problems, and show you where to get more information. We also ask you to help us by filling out a questionnaire to help us learn more about indoor cats, their needs, and problems. We hope you will join us in our efforts, even if only by enriching your own cat's life. We welcome questions or comments, and suggestions for improvement of this site. Sincerely, C.A. Tony Buffington, DVM, PhD, DACVN, and the members of the Indoor Cat Initiative. |
